I’m going to Houston for 3 weeks to stay with my Dad. Obviously I can wash and dry whatever I want and I have my own room so I don’t have to worry about wardrobe space. The main problem is I always take too much. I can’t imagine taking any less when I pack but usually I come home with some things unworn. It’s a little different this time because I’m going for such a long time. We plan to travel a little during my stay, and I know we’ll go to a few cocktail parties.
My biggest problem is taking far too many pairs of shoes. For example, on my packing list I have: 1 pair of lilac knee boots, 1 pair of black knee boots, red wedges, pink diamonte sandals, wooden soled clog-things, black stilletos, trainers, flip flops.
HELP ME!
Wait, more shoes: Cowboy boots (obviously), slippers

I always wear my bulkiest shoes on the plane, and I try to pack the shoes that are the most versatile (i.e. can be worn with the most outfits).
I try to pack items that mix and match well so that I can create combinations that I normally don’t wear but will still work….that way I am not packing several individual outfits but more several pieces that can be part of several outfits. I also try to pack around a color or two that helps make things more likely to coordinate. I pack jewelry/scarves/belts or other accessories to help change the look (and they take up less space).
For example, you only need 1-2 dresses for cocktail parties since you’re not likely to see the same people at both of them (and they know you are travelling so won’t necessarily expect a dfiferent outfit all the time).
The best rule is to put everything you think you’re taking on the bed and then take only half.
I flew to Africa (for a new assignment) and my suitcase was lost for almost a month. I had a few items with me in a carryon and I bought a couple different tops but I really learnt how to stretch out a wardrobe then.
Go to the library. Buy books on amazon. Research online. Subcribe to a Holiday Capsule Wardrobe magazine. Use your noggin, silly child
I think thats when the little black dress come in handy. It will go nice with any assessories you have. You could have a couple of dresses for evening wear, a couple of causual dresses and a couple of tops and skirts or trouser suits. You just need a good pair of evening shoes- pick a colour that goes with any dress, a pair of walking shoes ( or casuals) and trainers for any activities you might be doing.
