I want to plan a trip to Ireland, Scotland, and England. What should I visit, and where should I stay?

Brittany B asked:

I'm planning a trip to the UK and Ireland (not this summer, but the following) and need some help planning my itinerary. I would like to visit Dublin and County Cork, Edinburgh, the Highlands, London, and Cornwall. What other places should I visit? Any suggestions for hotels, inns, BB's? I would like the trip to be 12-15 days and around or under $3000 per person (including airfare). Thanks!

Look for Bed and Breakfast on Google. Com be specific concerning where you want to stay. Write to the people and ask for prices. Fly to Ireland first, visit. Book a Ferry to Scotland, Edinburgh is a beautiful city. Before leaving the U.S. buy a Britrail Pass, this will give you travel for a limited time two weeks ( Fortnight in the U.K.) or a month depending upon what you want. Going north from Edinburgh you can visit Arbroath and Montrose, going south you will come to Kings Cross Station in London. Tower of London, Hyde Park, Speakers Corner, Herrods Department Store. So much to see in London. Again on the train, South to Cornwall and even Dover where you can buy a ticket on a hovercraft to Calis in France. Nice Experience, but the French **** Americans. The cost of a Pound is about $ 1.50 to $ 1.75 USD.
The Pound is also called Quid. The coins are Pense. It is quite expensive in the U.K. Skip lunch and go to a pub in the evening for dinner and a pint. It is going to cost you $ 3,000.00 not including airfare. Hope you have a nice experience and a safe trip.

I'll assume you start and finish in London, for the simple reason that you can usually get the best deal on international flights to and from London

from London I'd suggest you fly to Cork, then either by rail or air to Dublin ... for flights look at airlines like Easyjet and Ryanair, for rail

from Dublin you could take ferry or flight ... look at ferry options on ... for instance you could take the P+O Irish Sea ferry from Dublin to Liverpool then catch a train from Liverpool to Glasgow details on
from Glasgow you can get coach tours up to Inverness, there's lots of suggestions on this website
but a friend of mine got a tour which departed from Glasgow, went to Inverness (for 2 nights) and returned to Edinburgh

from Edinburgh back to London, either a flight or train

the bit that's difficult to fit in is Cornwall ... Cornwall is beautiful but it's a good 5 hour or so train journey from London ... there's only flights to Newquay

suggestions for other places to visit ... you could break the journey from Edinburgh to London by stopping off at Durham (best Norman cathedral in the country) or York ... you could go to Cork by ferry from Swansea in Wales ... from Dublin you could take a train to Belfast and take the ferry from Belfast to Troon in Scotland and then on to Glasgow by train

by the way, rail travel in the UK can be quite expensive and often you can get cheaper options with airlines such as Easyjet etc ... however if you book your rail tickets early you can often get very cheap deals ... also there's a multi-ride rail pass
