How much does a round trip to Ireland coast?

stratoluck asked:

From Philadelphia to Shannon?
Also, how much do you suppose a one week stay at a relatively cheap hotel cost over there?

The airfare can vary by hundreds or even thousands of dollars depending on the time of year, the days of the week that you travel, how long you stay, and how far in advance you purchase your ticket. The difference is price between two flights on the same day can even vary substantially. Airlines limit the number of discount seats per flight, so the 7pm departure may be $700 and the 9pm departure may be $1,200.

This is very easy to figure out. Just go to any of the dozens of popular travel websites that sell airline tickets. You can try different combinations of dates and see how the prices changes in just a few minutes. One of the best is kayak.com because it shops many different websites and combines the results. However, be aware that no website can guarantee the lowest fare in all situations.

    In general:

Summer is the most expensive time. Winter is cheapest. Spring and fall are in the middle. Major holidays, such as Christmas can also be more.

For leisure fares, weekdays are usually cheaper than weekends.

The cheapest fares usually require an advance purchase of at least 14-21 days.

The number of discount seats per flight is limited, so booking well in advance can save money. However, it's not guaranteed.

Hotel rates can vary tremendously depending on where you travel. (Presumably, you're not just staying in Shannon - there's not much there.) Popular tourist areas cost more than small towns. Like airfares, summer costs more than winter. You can easily check hotel rates on any popular travel website, such as Expedia, Travelocity, or Orbitz.

Google your flights on the airline, then go to or similar and look into accommodation in the region, this website covers all kinds. You could also google 'Hotels+Limerick'.

The only airline flying directly from Philly to Ireland is USAirways.
Your best course of action is to check your sample dates on their website
The fare will differ depending on demand and availability but if you try different dates you will find the cheapest.
You also have several options by making connections to Aer Lingus in JFK or in Boston-Logan
If you are going to Shannon specifically you can't get there by connecting in London but if you consider landing somewhere else in Ireland you can take any of several airlines from PHL to London Heathrow (LHR) and connect there via Aerlingus or BMI to Dublin, Cork or Belfast.

For accommodation, if you just plan on staying for a week in one place then I recommend booking yourself via any online booking service such as or on a special offer site like

If you plan to move around and stay in different hotels each night then I recommend booking with a tour operator who will have deals with different hotels and can package then together.
    Some of these are:
You can find a full list on the official Irish Tourist board site at
