what is the length of the uk mainland coastline?

geepee asked:

if I were to keep to the closest roads to the coast, on the uk mainland, including wales and scotland, what would the length of the journey be in miles for a full round trip?

its about 12,429 km long, but if you were planning to make a full lenght trip you ahve to realise that the rad network rarely follows the coast, often over 20 miles way from it; so after a brief look at a road atlas i would guess a figure of about 11,000 km

    hope this helps
