A Barbados vacation on this beautiful Caribbean isle comes highly recommended, and there is plenty for the tourist to see and do.
Lying in the Caribbean Sea just north of Venezuela, this stunning island, which is known to the locals as Bajan, offers tourists the ideal mix of the watersports expected from a seaside paradise and fascinating cultural attractions. The island is divided into five separate regions, and, as each of them sport their own world class attractions and activities, tourists should make the most of their getaway and visit region in turn.
The local currency is the Bajan Dollar, although US Dollars are accepted throughout the island, and, given the island's British heritage, the official language is English. If you choose to take a cruise to Barbados you will most likely dock in the island capital of Bridgetow. It is here where visitors find the most extensive shopping options. When visiting capital you will witness one of the oldest synagogues and a historic Parliament Building. You will also find the George Washington House and Garrison Savannah.
The city of Bridgetown should not be confused with the area of the same name, and "Bridgetown" is therefore also one of the five regions that the island is divided into. No Barbados vacation would be complete without a visit to the capital, however, and it is recommended that tourists make the city their home base while they tour the island. The island's central region includes such attractions as the Wildlife Preserve and Flower Forest, which is a must see for all nature lovers, as well as Harrison Cave, which is known the world over for its breathtaking stalactites and stalagmites.
On the East Coast of Barbados the Atlantic Ocean creates much more volatile surf conditions, and is home to the island's most reknown surf break Soup Bowl. If you have a keen sense of adventure and enjoy hiking you should consider vacationing on the East Coast. This is were you will be able to surf and enjoy mother nature's finest beauties. If you are new to the sport of surfing then its not recommended that you surf at Bathseba as this can be quite dangerous. The West Coast offers visitors the somewhat gentler Caribbean Sea as well as stunning travel destinations like the town of Fustic, known for its exquisite birdlife and its Fustic wine, and Holetown, the oldest settlement on the island which lures visitors with its upscale hotels and restaurants.
Flights arrive on the island of Barbados from all over the world, especially the United Kingdom and the United States Of America, at the island's Grantely Adams International Airport. This airport is at the most southern tip of the island. You can also find championship golf courses, high-end vacation rental accommodations and a well networked bus route. Places to visit in the south include the Graeme Hall Nature Reserve and the vibrant St Lawrence Gap neighborhood.
Indulging in a Barbados vacation is the perfect way to forget the disappointments and frustrations of everyday life, and everyone should treat themselves to this type of first-rate getaway once every couple of years.
