Ideas for European city break for keen gardener?

bunnyrabbit22 asked:

I want to take my mum for a surprise city break in Europe - she is mad about gardening and being outdoors, and loves great scenery and browsing in little markets, etc...but is not so bothered about restaurants, nightlife and all that - can anyone recommend a good European destination for a long weekend? Thanks!

She can come stay with me in my house in northern Italy....I can take her to the market, to lake Garda and to the mountains.

And she can work on my garden if she wants! :-)

Amsterdam has some flower markets by the canals and there are plenty of other things to do there such as canal trips, art galleries, museums and the Anne Frank Museum.

Many towns in England have open garden weekends, so you might go for that.
Netherlands (Holland) might indeed be good too, but then she would expect the tulips to be out, late April will be a good time.

But an avid gardener will find something to do with gardens everywhere.

Hi there. Amsterdam has some lovely canalside gardens that are open to the public I think in May/June. you can check on Dutch tourist information website. One garden is owned by British lady wo also does cookery classes - beautiful gaden. Also lovely gardens (front) if you get a bus from centraal station to Zandam (Amsterdam North) Also gardens of Royal palace at Het Loo the Hague.day trips fromAmsterdam.

Also Monets garden at Giverny France are most definitely worth a visit.
