Don’t you think £120 for a pair of hair straigteners is entirely unjustified?

Vorsprung durch Technik asked:

My girlfriend keeps hinting to me about a pair of GHD hair straigteners that she wants me to buy her for her birthday, but I refuse to pay £120 for them. Frankly I find it a totally unjustified price when there are hair straigteners on the market for £30 or so; in my opinion the GHD-branded straighteners are a rip off. I mean, for £120 I could take her for a long weekend in Paris…

    You stick by your guns!

But if they are what she really wants then their value to her is way more than £120.00….if you can afford it get them…I would be pi**** off if my boyfriend got what HE thought was good when I wanted something else.

    yes 120 quid is ridiculous
mine cost 30 pounds about 2 years ago (and they are even cheaper now)
They are babyliss and as good as ghds
you are just paying for the label

  • myrlabelle

i am sorry, but they are well worth it!! the ones that cost £30 are crap and they damage the hair… a weekend in paris is nice but it will go and may be forgotten, just get her what SHE wants cos she knows better!!

  • Moon Spiral

The cheaper ones do not last as long and do not have the desired effect. I bought another pair of Remington’s which after a couple months of use are not getting my hair as straight as I would like. I am definitely investing in a pair of GHD’s next time round.

WHOA! that’s like $240 or so over here! HECK NO! The weekend in Paris sounds much nicer.
hey! why the thumbs down? so mean!

  • Sunshine

i totally disagree, there are actually no better straightners than GHD’s, they are the best and they have lots more features than the cheap ones..
although i do agree, take her to paris. its romantic and you thought of it yourself, i think your lovely :) lol

  • DiamondKiss

trust me hun- they are WORTH it! I got some for xmas and seriously they’re amazing! I can see how £120 is alot but if she’s hinting then i really think you should get her some! She’ll love them.

You get what you pay for! GHD are the original and best ceramic straighteners and you wont find any better or that last longer, thats why all good hairdressers use them! (You can also get them now for about £90).

hey i agree with that them straightners are really good thugh as i use thm to but i also use another pair called FHI these are profesional straightners you cnt buy them in shops and they are just the same as ghd but if you go on ebay and type this code in 110214204890. these are a new pair for £55 and they are really good as i use them in my hairdressing salon.
ebay have also got cheap ghd brand new ones for £72.99 type the code 330203406849. i think you should buy her the ghd else she will be upset
    hope i helped
    good luck xx

yes cld find so many more important things to do with that specially on benefits think of the poor and homeless etc must be nice to spend money like water

…why do you think girls (including me) pay £100+ for GHDS? are you THAT naive in thinking we buy it for the name :-S Seriously, try straightening your hair with £30 straightners, it’s like buying a cheap iron that does not iron the creases out of your clothes. You pay for what you get.

Plus GHDS, are much hotter than your usual normal bog standard straightners, it’s her birthday, if thats what she wants, why are you refusing it to her? They last years, whereas £30 straightners last about a week?

seriously your question has annoyed me, just use some common sense, or how about looking up the product spec on a pair of £30 straightners compared to GHDs.

would you buy a £100 TV or ask for a flat screen HD tv? seriously wth.

  • sammie

GHDs are the best hair straightners around

I have spent probably double that on cheaper ones that do not even come close to the performance of my ghds

Dont be so mean it is her birthday and you are lucky she has given you a hint

You could be even more nicer and buy the pink ones as money gets donated to cancer research

If you do not buy them she will make your life a misery and go out and buy herself a pair

  • tonytucks

Just a blatant rip off, just think if you buy them then you are making a stinking rich person even richer company’s like that are just thieves and make loads of money from fools, they probably get them made in China for about a fiver anyway.

The weekend in Paris idea is romantic and sweet and alot of girls would love that but I think if what she really wants, and therefore has been hinting for, are GHDs and you can afford it then you should buy it because it’ll make her happy BUT I agree that £120 is ‘alot’ for a pair of straighteners :P My cousin has them and they’re good but I have a Babyliss one which I rarely use but it can rival the GHDs in performance :) and they were £60 retail at the time I got them. I don’t think you can get good straighteners for £30 though..?
    xx

I can see where you are coming from. Personally i think GHD’s are fantastic and yes, they are expensive but worth it. Tell her you had planned to take her to Paris for the weekend, and buy her a seat of heated rollers.. She will love that look loose curls are so in now..

  • charlie

I bought GHD’s when they were only £99 and I thought that was expensive, but they are well worth it!!! No other brand compares to them.

My mum bought the babyliss ones similar but they are rubbish.

Buy her the GHD’s, she’ll love you for ever!

  • ELIZABETH H

I would not spend that as mine cost £25 and they are great. GHD is a ‘designer’ brand and mainly bought for the name.

However, if you love her and want to make her really happy then spend the money

If you do not want to spend £120 then either split the money with her or buy her something completely different. Don’t just buy a cheaper set of straighteners! That is a big no no

  • Danielle UK

You get what you pay for afterall, and GHDs are the BEST hair straighteners you can buy, its not all about the brand, or name, its that they work- the heat is distributed evenly along the irons, if it gets too cold in a room they won’t blow up the next time you use them due to condensation forming under the plates. I for one have no problem spending my own hard earned money on expensive things (including GHDs) for myself (before work last week I bought myself a lovely Gucci waist-bag) but can see why you may be a bit peeved. Tell her you’ll go halves with her, then see whether she still wants them- or is happier to spend your money.

  • NIGEL R

go look on ebay you can pick them up for about 80 quid she thinks she’s won and you’ve got yourself a bargain and trust me women always win there is nothing worse an a sulking girlfriend…

  • claire686983

I would buy her the ghd’s otherwise she’ll only be disappointed probably go and buy them herself anyway, and then she won’t use the ones you bought.

  • Teri lou

the most ive payed for straighteners £59.99 that was too much! complete ripoff!
