The Old Bell Hotel, Malmesbury, just what your after.
there is a place in the country side near market drayton shropshire called
hodnet hall
they used to maybe still do , have
open fires , windows opening up to trees and fie;ds and birds singing
and at night
the mood changes as you dress up im costume , of king richard the lion heart or which ever medieval theme is happening , for a medieval banquet , and nights (mock) fighting and roll playing, it is an old building with wooden floors and walls and stairs like you have never seen before open fires that you can smell the wood burning , and the food is LUSH well worth a weekend ,
For rustic cottages off the beaten track in Cumbria (5 star with lovely views over a little stone bridge into the far distance) Hall Hills is great. We stayed there and loved it. The four cottages are made from converted stone 17th century barns. All very tasteful. There was no open fire in our cottage, to be honest, but it was very rustic, a very romantic setting, and very peaceful.
