Try the Isle of Wight.It has lovely cottages and villages with thatched roofs.Queen Victoria lived there in Osborn house after her husband died.Carisbrook castle.Where King Charles was held before his execution. The Island is steeped in history and also has lovely beaches.

I have been doing my own city of Portsmouth in geography GCSE and how it is a tourist destination, so my first answer is Portsmouth home to the spinnaker Tower, quite a good tower considering it cost 20 million more than original estmates, seems to be the same case with the olympics but on a larger scale. Also the Brecon Beacons is a beautiful area to visit i enjoyed my time there very much. Also the lake distrct and many other national parks are relaxing places to visit for a weekend

i would suggest the trossachs, loch lomond or perhaps speyside. some lovely settings in these areas surrounded by forests, mountains and lochs. very relaxing and romantic

St.Abbs is a little harbour village on the east coast near the English/Scottish borders off the A.1 it has tons of wildlife, Peter the boatman does trips to show the rare bird population and seals,There is an Oldie World tearoom that does BB. Coldingham which is just next door has a beautiful beach and it's never busy, except when the surfers visit , ideal for long walks along the beach at night, most pubs in this area have log fires and some do BB.Even when it is windy and raining it is still a beautiful spot.

Northumberland is fantastic at that time of year. Not as busy/commercial as the lakes and the scenery is amazing. Beautiful wide sweeping beaches and castles, fantastic local food, and lots of cottages to stay in. We go every year and have done for about 15 years. Also lovely walks inland, and lots of Roman history. Take a look on the link below...

Centre Parcs? ok, I know people may say its more energic, but even if you want to relax, the Sherwood forest ones Aquasana, does relaxing weekends and holidays.

we stayed in a lovely cottage greystoke (yes the famous place for tarzan) in the middle of now where it was gorgeous
its up near cumbria
just go online to cumbria tourist website
otherwise corwall and devon

Since we do not know where you are I suggest something like Sawdays guide. It's got very nice pubs with good food and ale and pubs that do bB. All good.
Look in a good bookshop for the guide and snack on it without buying!! Hee Hee.
