If you go to Cambridge you can fly back to Glasgow from Luton airport on easyjet for about £35

i went to scotland highlands for 2 weeks and loved it, the area is great. Liverpool is a big city but i surpose your use to living in glasgo. Catching a train to scotland from any place wount take very long, maybe a couple of hours so you can go home any time. It will be a big change though.
