In the middle of winter one of the best things to plan for is your summer holiday. As the snow falls and temperatures drop, at least if you have booked a getaway to warmer climes there is something to look forward to.
And for those who don’t want to wait until the summer arrives, there is always the option of flying to a winter sun destination. Within Europe, the closest of these hotspots can be found in the Canary Islands, which lie just off the coast of North Africa. And which often enjoy temperatures of 20º C and more on an average winter day.
This archipelago is extremely accessible, especially from most northern European cities. As over the last forty years, they have become something of a byword for sun seekers from the colder countries of the north.
Lanzarote is no exception. As the most easterly isle it enjoys a warm dry climate and has an average of only twenty days rainfall per year. Since tourism took off in the late 1960’s, it has developed its tourist infrastructure to ensure it can cater for every taste and style of holiday.
And whereas it was once dominated by apartments and hotels, now the accommodation in Lanzarote has an even wider appeal. In recent years, there has been a huge growth in holiday villas in Lanzarote, as visitors increasingly appreciate being able to stay in their own home from home.
So even though Puerto del Carmen began its career as a holiday resort with a high number of apartments and one or two hotels that is not the case these days. The exclusive enclave of Los Mojones is where most of the holiday villas in Puerto del Carmen can be found. With the vast majority boasting tropical gardens planted with palm trees around their swimming pools.
And whilst the holiday villas in Playa Blanca may be somewhat newer and therefore possess less abundant greenery, the modern style villas here are equally popular. Most have ample sun terraces surrounding the pool, with many extras such as hot-tubs and air conditioning.
The interiors are finished to match, with comfortable furnishings and all modern conveniences in the kitchens and bathrooms. This is also the case in the older holiday villas in Costa Teguise, where owners are keen to add as many facilities for their guests as in the other resorts. All in all, villas in Lanzarote offer excellent accommodation for those who like a tailor-made vacation.
