Someone mentioned Krakow, Poland. It's wonderful there and you can visit Auschwitz and Birkenau for some WW II history. Croatia is also a pretty cheap place. It is also very beautiful with very nice beaches. I know Romania and Bulgaria are very up and coming and still quite cheap but I personally have never been. Don't forge Slovenia!! I think for a good cheap vacation hit former Eastern Bloc countries, the price is right and the people are very friendly!
