Good cottage/seaside holidays in Scotland?

Disgruntled Biscuit asked:

We're finally able to take a short weekend break together, and I would like to take a trip to the sea, but my husband wants to take a cottage break near Loch Lomond or thereabouts (within a reasonable bus/train journey from Glasgow). Can anyone suggest something nice for both scenarios that's not too far away, maybe someplace they've gone before and really enjoyed? Would have to be baby friendly (8 month old).

Many thanks all.

The best location for you is Helensburgh. This is a smart seaside town from where you can get a direct train into Glasgow (takes about 50 mins) and which is about 15 minutes from the A82 which is the main road beside Loch Lomond. Helensburgh has a really nice mix of bars resteraunts and boutique shops and has a beach and all the usual seasidey things (fish chips, ice creams etc). Its a bit more upmarket than a lot of Scottish seasides. If you head for Loch Lomondside the village of Luss is very pretty and actually has a beach on the shore of Loch Lomond which probably gives you the best of both worlds.
