Maria S asked:
We bought a pair of short haired male guinea pigs last weekend. Today (Tuesday) I noticed that one of them has a pink, almost bold ear, and I had not noticed it before. The skin is not broken and the guine pig allows you to touch it. The fur on the bold side is white and it the coat seems really thick everywhere else. Should I take it to a vet, will it go away on its' own/is it harmless or can I deal with it? Thank you for any ideas

we had a guinea pig like this check for mites
well, i wouldn't worry unless it starts to visibly turn red or bothers him. that could be his favorite scratching place or he might have caught it on something in his cage. look for mites and give him a bath. hold off on the vet for now, but watch for weird eating habits, puss from eyes or nose, or if he starts to loose anymore hair.
You will find that all guinea pigs have little or no fur on their ears it is just it is more visable on a white patch as it shows pink skin were as on a coloured patch the skin is brown or black so it is not noticed.
