Depends where you live. If you live within the UK then no. It's a great country, cities are vibrant, countryside/highands are beautiful and the islands are really special!

since u r driving there u will be coming from wales or england..so no u dont need a passport...

No, Scotland is still part of the United Kingdom...so as you are driving from England (where else....) all you will see is a 'Welcome to Scotland' sign....keep driving on the left...
We accept 'English money', but not 'euros'..Scottish bank notes are a little different from English ones (worth the same) - although they are not a common sight in Southern England and it leads to some smaller shopkeepers rejecting them (illegal to do).
If you can - visit both the East West coasts (only 3 hours drive)...the West has stunning mountain / Atlantic views and several of the cities such as Edinburgh Glasgow. A word of caution - take care on the smaller roads as there is a LOT of blinds corners heavy traffic. If you have GPS...it's very handy!
You'll find 'most' Scots a fair friendly people should you need asistance.

No passports required, but they did use to sell fake joke ones at Gretna Green on the border. You will love Scotland, if you are going as far north as the highlands you will see some of the finest scenery to be found anywhere on the planet, it is a truly wonderful place. I am a sassenach (Englishman) but have been made most welcome wherever i have been in this fine country.
