How much money for a 6 month trip around Europe?

My cousin and I are planning a trip from Summer 2007 to December of the same year.

We are choosing to go through eastern europe first, then Italy, through France and finaly to Spain.

We are hoping to do it on a shoestring budget... i.e. staying at hostels, working on family farms etc.

Does anyone know approximately how much a trip this long would cost?
